SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP [25.06.07]

With the focus now very much on the TG4 Ulster senior final on Sunday, the county players locked horns last week as the opening salvos were exchanged in the WJ Dolan Tyrone championships. Game of the round witnessed the departure of An Charraig Mhor for the first time in many years at the first round stage. Errigal Ciaran now installed as senior championship favorites. There was little else in the way of shocks over the week of football action, but all football fans are now set for Clones on Sunday.

Errigal ladies dethroned county champions  An Charraig Mhor on Tuesday. In the end it was Tyrone minor Sarah Connolly who lashed over the winning point deep into injury time.

Connolly had opened the scoring before county forward  Gemma Begley cut in for a goal for the champions. Errigal added  points through the Quinns before Begley and O’Kane added one apiece for Carrickmore.. In an end to end second half it was certainly going down to the wire, the champions went a point up again through Begley in the closing stages but veteran Tyrone forward Selina Oguz leveled matters again before the last gasp winner from Connolly.

Elsewhere Aodh Ruadh had a convincing win over the Anne Dooher led Glenelly although Martina Dillon was on hand to pull off two stunning saves. Fr Rocks had two points to spare over St Dympnas .while in the intermediate championship, Sperrin Og beat Omagh , Cappagh and Beragh meet again.

Thursday night featured the St Macartans Moy tie in the senior grade, with a 3-17 to 0-5 victory for the Clogher Valley club securing their place in the latter stages.
