CLUB ACTION IN THE COUNTY

Many of the county minors were involved in the opening round of the minor championship on Saturday last. A poor evening for football yet there was some exciting action around the county. St Macartans proved too strong for 2005 grade two double winners St Endas who despite putting in a spirited display lost 2-9 to 2-4, Christiane   Hunter and Connie White the pick of the losers, as Macartans Jolene Donnelly was superb. Aodh Ruadh edged a nervy first round tie against St Dympnas, just a single point separated the sides at the end with the Dromore side ruing missed chances.

The big clash of the night, An Charraig Mhor and Errigal was postponed.Aghyaran, Clan Na Gael and An Carraig secured places in the next round of the grade two championship while in grade three Coalisland and Fintona advance at the expense of Stewartstown and Sigersons.

The attention returns to the minor leagues on Monday , there’s round seven fixtures in grade one while in grade two it’s the semi-finals. Clan Na Gael meet Fr Rocks and Ardboe will play host to Glenelly.

The grade three finally is an all east Tyrone affair as Coalisland play the improving Galbally Onagh Celts. The venue has to be confirmed for that tie.

Its championship time on Saturday for the Under 14s, game of   grade one at St Colmcille Park as An Charraig Mhor   host Errigal Ciaran. Throw in time for the Under 14 championship is 7.30pm

SUPPORT THE MINORS

County board chairperson Ann Marie Meenan meanwhile has appealed for the clubs in the county to make an extra effort to come along and support the minors this weekend. Speaking at the official switch-on of the new floodlights at Healy Park, the county official urged all clubs to try and send along their members to support the county in their bid to reach the Ulster final.
