Tyrone Club News (Wednesday 07/06/06)

The countdown may well be on for the Ulster championships but there’s plenty of action closer to home. Big news too in Tyrone as the county unveiled a new sponsor on Tuesday evening who is no stranger to Tyrone supporters.

Willie John Dolan who sponsored Tyrone through the wilderness to their first All Ireland title has come on board to sponsor the ladies game as senior, intermediate and junior football championships sponsor.

Already heavily involved in the men’s game in Tyrone Willie John felt this was a natural progression,

“ With sponsoring the men’s football and hurling in the county I thought when I was asked that this was the right road to go, there’s few other counties that have the one sponsor involved, it’s the right way to go with integration coming”

Few if any counties indeed have the level of support Tyrone have received this term, Strathroy are the senior team sponsors while several underage squads too have been supported by the local business community, a show of support for the work being done.

Tyrone are of course lucky to have business men in the calibre of Dolan who has in the past put his money where his mouth is with little or no return. His support of the ladies game in his native county was welcomed by Ann Marie Meenan the county chairperson and a member of the Aghyaran club- like the new sponsor.

“ firstly its great to have the championships sponsored and with Willie John on board its certainly high profile for us, he’s well known for his support of gaelic games   and we can really feel honoured he has thrown his weight behind the ladies game”,

The deal confirmed on Tuesday at a packed county board meeting is for three years and sees a new senior championship cup as well as a substantial sum of money
