The long hard season for the Intermediate and junior sides in Tyrone will draw to a close this weekend with the two finals set to go ahead on Saturday and the chance of doubles adds some spice for Moy and Beragh. The Division two final is a repeat of the championship final from the Summer as Fr Rocks attempt to gain revenge for that championship loss at Beragh.
Moy were impressive on route to that championship success but it turned into a nail bitter as Cookstown hauled themselves back into a game that looked well beyond them. Having trailed 1-7 to 0-2 at the break Laura Burtons goal left just a point in the tie with seconds left, the comeback though was not enough as time ran out. The difference between the sides at Beragh was Caroline Kelly who latched on 0-7 from play for Moy and they will be certainly starting as slight favourites in this one despite being heavily beaten by Crossmaglen in the Ulster club series.
Fr Rocks will not though be left wanting in their hunt for a title last secured in 1999 and attempt to stop the double for their South Tyrone rivals.
Beragh will attempt to erase the late loss in the Ulster club championship from their minds as they step into the Division three league final against the ever improving Ardboe. The Red Knights squandered a host of chances in their county final meeting with Galbally and they will have to improve on the statistic of 23 wides if they are to get their hands on the title for the first time in their history and add to the Tommy McGarvey cup.
Ardboe have been impressive since stepping up to the junior ranks of adult competition, they have worked hard to develop the ladies game on the loughshore and despite ongoing difficulties with pitches that has affected the whole club unit this is a remarkable achievement.
Without doubt, two cracking finals on the cards and of course the senior decider is just around the corner set to bring the curtain down on another adult season.
Two Under 16 finals will also go ahead this Saturday in the county, in Grade two Donaghmore will face Sperrin Og with a high noon showdown, while Galbally will take on Kildress in the grade three decider.
Meanwhile an announcement on the Underage and senior management for Tyrone’s squads is imminent after a series of interviews held in the past couple of weeks.
“ The standard has been excellent” admitted County chairperson Ann Marie Meehan and the appointments will be ratified by the county board within the next week or so.
