COUNTY SET TO LOOK OVER 2005

The Annual General Meeting of Cumann Peil Gael Na Mban Tir Eoghain will go ahead this Sunday At Omagh St Endas, as always there’s plenty to get through and all clubs are reminded to be represented.

One major change is expected with the standing down of long time chairperson Mary Connolly.

Her decision to step down from the post which she has held for over ten years is certain to come as a blow to the county however after so many years of loyal service, endless runs of meetings and overall commitment to the association Mary deserves her break.

Who though will replace her ? several names are in the ring the most notable being Ann Marie Meenan who with Paddy Donnelly in the past year  handled the fixtures.

Elsewhere theres expected to be one or two changes while expect some debate over fixtures and underage competition as well as the fortunes of the county sides.

A highlight of the past year was the development of the County website which has proven to be a massive hit with clubs, players and supporters alike, while on the field the futures bright with underage teams developing well in the provincial series.

The County seniors failed in the Ulster Final and at Croke Park the Dubs were too strong, however plans for the 2006 campaign are at an advanced stage and with the league just around the corner its all systems go for John McAleer and his squad.

Club honours of course were well shared with several league and championship doubles in 2005, An Charraig Mhor securing the big double in senior football, Glennelly too having their moment in the sun at Intermediate level while in Junior football it was Fintona and Cappagh who picked up the honours.

Underage football was again a massive success at all levels although several clubs have indicated that the Under 12 grade should revert back to competitive football…..that should make for some lively debate on Sunday.

Again at underage level there were doubles in several grades but the overall standard of football continues to improve.
