This was the one that got away for Tyrone in the Suzuki national football league last Saturday at Beragh. Tyrone knew they had a realistic chance of reaching the last four of the league campaign but after squandering sixteen first half chances Armagh remained focused and took their place against Cork.

Like Tyrone, Armagh pulled in a new management team over the close season but so much for a transition time in the two Ulster counties, the record in the Suzuki national league speaks for itself,  played  five won three drew one and lost one and is it a real surprise that Tyrone and Armagh will meet again this weekend for a place in the last four.

Croke Park hosted the tie but it was a day to forget for the lady footballers of Tyrone as the Cora Staunton led Connacht champions beat their Ulster counterparts  5-10 to 2-12 with full forward Staunton bagging 3-6.

Remarkably it was in 2000 that a Tyrone minor captain had last took hold of the Ulster minor championship trophy, too long for a county that boasts the strongest body of clubs in the province. A stunning Ulster campaign though in 2007 was capped with another high scoring display from this super talented Tyrone side managed by Martina Dillon and Rory McCann on Tuesday night.

On Saturday at Killeeshil the Chieftain trailer sponsored under 14 first team suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of old rivals Monaghan.
Monaghan with the benefit of a game last week lost no time in putting the Ulster blitz winners on the back foot with a display of attacking football. It was the twenty eight minute before the red hand girls registered their first score a goal by Louise Kelly, but by this time the farney girls had record a score of 2 - 7
