In terms of performances this season there will be few if any as clinical as Tyrones complete over run of Antrim on Tuesday night. More than one sided from the off Tyrone eased through to the minor football championship play-off and a meeting with another high scoring side Monaghan.next Tuesday.
On this sort of form Tuesdays clash in the O’Neill county between the two adversaries could indeed be a classic and produce the winners of the Ulster series. The Farney girls hit 10-26 against Fermanagh Tyrone amassed 9-30 against Antrim but it should and could have been double that.
Sarah Connolly hit 1-10, at least five of those points came of goal chances as the no nonsense full forward stormed through but opted to fist over the point. That was indeed the case for several scores on a night when everything clicked for Martina Dillons side.
They led from the start and had amassed 3-8 before Antrim got a score, the Tyrone defence as mean as the forwards were on fire, Clodagh Poyntz Sarah Louise McLaughlin and Ashling O’Kane amongst the first half scores as Tyrone led 4-16 to 2-1.
Poyntz finished with a breathtaking 2-4, McLaughlin 2-3 and O’Kane with 0-5, incidently only one score was from a dead ball. Overall a comprehensive Tyrone display, they played football throughout and they moved the ball with ease out of defence and up front. They will however face a sterner test on Tuesday against Monaghan.
