Tyrone set for Ulster Final showdown
Tyrone Senior Ladies booked their place in Sunday’s
Ulster Senior Football Championship Final courtesy of a hard-fought
1-07 to 0-09 win over Donegal in their semi-final meeting at Irvinestown
on Tuesday evening.
The game was slow to spring into life as both sides registered a succession
of wides early on as nerves seemed to get the better of even the most
experienced campaigners. After a low-scoring first half, Tyrone trailed
by 0-3 to 0-2 at half time with both points coming from the trusty boot
of full forward and captain Eilish Gormley.
Tyrone commenced the second half in sublime form, as a series of good
passages of play resulted in Tyrone turning a one-point deficit into
a six point lead. Points from Gemma Begley, Caroline Kelly, wing back
Cathy Donnelly and Gormley set Tyrone on their way, before in the ninth
minute of the half the captain found herself in space to fire past Donegal
keeper Charlene Mc Hugh to put her side firmly in the driving seat.
This however was to be their last score until injury time, as the Red
Hand girls had to endure a late Donegal onslaught as the Tir Chonnail
girls fired over six unanswered points to level the tie, and the game
seemed destined for extra time until captain Eilish Gormley stepped
forward to fire over a 66th minute free kick to give her side a deserved
one point victory and send them through to Sundays showdown with Monaghan.

Monaghan next up for Red Hands
This Sunday sees Tyrone go head to head with reigning champions
Monaghan with the Ulster Senior Championship at stake (Clones, 3.30)
Tyrone of course will have a prime opportunity to gain the ultimate
vengeance for their one-point loss to the Farney side earlier in the
campaign, Jenny Greenans last gasp goal depriving Tyrone of a much-deserved
win. Sundays game though will provide Tyrone with the perfect opportunity
not only to get one over on their fierce rivals, but to reclaim their
Ulster crown in the process.
