UNDER 14s REACH SEMI-FINAL

Tyrone under 14’s made history on Sunday in Mullahorn, by becoming the first team from Tyrone to reach the all Ireland under 14 semi-finals.

Tyrone got of to a flying start to this quarter-final clash with Leitrim, going ahead inside the first two minutes with a converted free by Eva Hicks, two minutes later Amy McElhatton doubled the score as Tyrone kept constant pressure on the Leitrim defence. Laura McSorley made it three and Hicks converted the fourth after ten minutes. Full forward Laura Heagney fired over her first which was followed by the games opening goal a brilliant left footed effort by Emma Collins who was making her starting debut. A further point and goal by Heagney put Tyrone clearly in the driving seat, but fair to Leitrim they kept fighting and were awarded when centre half Deirdre Moran (1-0) and Michelle Guckian(0-1) give them a little glimmer of hope. The red hands hit back with three quick points one from captain Alice McNally and two from Heagney. Leitrim dent over their second point courtesy of Guckian, but McSorley rounded up the half with a brace of points to leave them going in Tyrone 2 – 11   Leitrim 1 – 02

As the second half started the heavens opened and Leitrim got a quick goal their second also from Moran. This didn’t dampen the Tyrone spirit as Heagney and Collins added minors to their tally. Then two goals in a minute by Hicks and the hard working Megan McNelis washed away any semblance of a come back for Leitrim.McSorley hit over her fourth before midfield pairing Clara McMenamin and McNally fired to the net to increase Tyrone’s goal tally to six. Two more points by McSorley another from Heagney followed by her second major and a final point from substitute Shannon Skelton sealed this convincing victory for Tyrone. Leitrim did get a consolation goal deep into injury time but this game was all about Tyrone.
