Tyrone 4 – 13             Fermanagh 1 – 07

The Tyrone under 14 second team got off to a great start in the round robin stages of this years Ulster B championship with a convincing win in Fintona against Fermanagh.Kitted out in their new outfit sponsored by Total shop fitters a local firm who fit out shops with shelving and refrigerating all over the Northwest, the red hand girls not only looked the part but played the part as well.

Eva Hicks working at centre of the forty five opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a well taken goal the Erne girls getting on the board in the eleventh minute with a good score from Shauna Murphy. Megan McNelis extended Tyrone’s lead only to see Fermanagh hit right back with their only goal of the game, Fermanagh then had their best spell in the game when they hit three unanswered points (two frees) by Murphy and one from play, the last was scored in the nineteenth minute which was Fermanagh’s last score of the half with Tyrone dominating the rest of the half with scores from Laura McSorley (1-1) and Laura Heagney and Hicks with one apiece to put Tyrone three up at the break

The first five minutes of the second period saw Tyrone extend their lead with points from Amy McElhatton and McSorley and majors from Amy Cox and McNelis.

With the red hand girls now firmly in control full back Laura Kilpatrick fired over after good work from Tori McLaughlin and Clara McMenamin, further scores from McElhatton and two Hicks frees to put Tyrone ahead 4-10 to Fermanagh’s 1-4. The rest of the game was played out with each side trading points with the ever impressive Murphy converting three frees intersected by points from Rachael Brennan another Hicks free and finished by midfielder Alice McNally. All in all Tyrone were the far superior side with nine different players getting their name on the scoresheet.

There next game is not until the 19th May when they travel to Grange in Armagh to take on the classy orchard girls. Tyrone: K. Boyle, E. Boyle, Kilpatrick (0-1), O’Neill, Lowe, McLaughlin, McNabb, McMenamin, McNally (0-1), McNelis (1-1), Hicks (1-4), McElhatton (0-2), Mc, Sorley (1-2), Cox (1-0), and Haegney (0-1).  Subs used Kerr, Brennan (0-1), Irvine, McKenna and Strain.

Next week is the turn of the first team to start their campaign when they take on Monaghan (who were very impressive in their demolition of a fancied Down on Saturday), in Killeeshil on Saturday 6th May at 3.00pm. Training for first team on Friday 5th May 6.30pm everyone must attend.
