Tyrone were taught a lesson in finishing by  Armaghs Aileen Matthews last Saturday as they themselves squandered a plethora of scoring chances in the Suzuki National League opener played in far from ideal conditions at Lurgan.
The grass long and the pitch heavy but while Tyrone struggled Armagh were dominant up front with full forward Matthews causing problems to the entire Tyrone defence.

Armagh created the best of the chances early on too when Marian Tennison forced Elaine Mallaghan into three top notch saves, however Alish Gormleys tenth minute point should have been added too as both the former all star and debutant Sarah Connolly hit close range frees wide. Ann Dooher and Briege Daly added Tyrone scores with Matthews keeping the Orchard girls in the hunt and by half time Armagh had went ahead, O'Donnell, Duncan and Orla Murtgah leaving it 0-4 to 0-3

Sarah Connolly, corner forward Orla O'Neill and Matthews traded points within the opening twelve minutes of the restart to leave Armagh a point ahead and Tyrone who at times looked out of sorts received a boost on fourteen minutes when the Armagh full forward was sin-binned.

In those ten minutes  though Tyrone only scored a single point through O'Neill as they failed to cause the experienced  home sides defence any problems, Connolly winning good ball but with little or no support from a predictable forward unit it was Armagh who upped the tempo.

First Sharon Duncan then Aileen Matthews (0-2) and finally Marian Tennison brought the tally to ten points  as Claire McAlliskey got a yellow card to add to Tyrones woes on a day best forgotten by John McAleers girls, plenty of room for improvement as the Dubs come to town on Sunday
